Master Lanre Lawanson in Chicago - Chang's Martial Arts Academy

Master Lanre Lawanson

Master Olanrewagu "Lanre" Lawanson was born in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1964. He has been studying Tae Kwon Do for over 30 years, and holds a 6th Dan Black Belt. He studied under Grand Master Chang Seo Park, an 8th Dan Black Belt, who guided him to train in Korea for a Kukiwon Instructor Certificate.

Master Lanre placed 2nd at the World Tae Kwon Do Festival in Osaka, Japan 1997, and as a national and international competitor he has been awarded Grand Champion more than 10 times in his career. During a Best of the Best Tour of South America in 1997, he took 1st place in Sao Paolo, Brazil, and Santiago, Chile. He has trained with the Nigerian national team, and was on the demonstration teams for both Paraguay and Argentina.

For over 25 years, Master Lanre has owned and operated the Chang's Martial Arts & Fitness Studio,in the Wicker Park/Bucktown and the Ukrainian village area. His Tae kwon Do school has produced many state and national champions. Five of his students have also started successful Tae Kwon Do schools, in three countries: Mexico, Argentina, and the USA. He has graduated over 100+ Black Belt students to date, including children and adults.

Martial Arts are just the beginning of Master Lanre's education, however his passion is seeing transform life through his teaching. He is also a certified Personal Trainer, a Certified Oriental Manipulative Therapist (OMT), and has studied Oriental Medicine with a specialty in Accupuncture. Master Lanre's many accolades include:
